My big feature on the new Barclays Center and what its arrival means for Brooklyn is up and live at New York. This story progressed in fits and starts, to say the least. I’ve been working on it for so long that the first time I interviewed Bruce Ratner, he gave me advice on how to best help out a pregnant wife. (My son turns nine months old tomorrow.) I hope does an effective job of balancing the excitement that Brooklynites are feeling to have an NBA team suddenly show up in its backyard with the apprehension not just about how the place was built, but also how it might change the borough we all love. I’ve lived in Brooklyn for almost a decade now, and I’m fascinated to see what’s going to happen. This story was sort of my attempt to figure it out. I live here, after all.
